Ask an Avenger: How Inspire's Software Developer ‘Studies It’

After Steve Wetzel, an Inspire Software Developer, was recognized as the Avenger of the Month for our "Study It" value, we sat down with him to learn what it means to him.

Study It: Avengers are relentlessly curious. We are never done growing. We seek to improve ourselves every day. We are humble in acknowledging what we don’t know. We are always testing and learning. We look for new ideas everywhere.

‘Study It’ is core to Inspire's mission. Building an entirely new type of energy company requires that we constantly study the market and our customers' needs to rapidly test and develop innovative, user-friendly products. Steve embodies this principle at work, always displaying a passion for understanding the ins and outs of our business and the people who make it work. We caught up with him about what ‘Study It’ means to him, what he’s learned, and why Inspire is a great place to work:

Q: You won Avenger of the Month for "Study It." What does this value mean to you and how do you embody it at work?

To me, "Study It" means curiosity. When you have a curiosity about something, then studying comes naturally. I like to learn how everybody does their job and how all the pieces of Inspire work together. When you find someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about a subject, it is easy to dive in and learn a ton.

Q: What’s the best thing you’ve learned at Inspire?

There's so much about the energy sector that I didn't even know existed. I mean obviously it's complex, but there's basically a never-ending supply of knowledge there, and I've barely scratched the surface.

Q: What excites you about working at Inspire?

I think it's how achievable our mission feels. Even when we set aggressive goals, it always feels like we'll be able to accomplish such a positive change in the world just by trying to reach those goals.

Q: What makes Inspire a unique place to work?

There's no doubt in my mind: It's the people. Everyone at Inspire is excited and motivated to work toward the same goal, but most of all they're fun to work with. Those things are priceless and make working here so much better than any other perk we could have.
