Inspire Clean Energy Introduces a Clean Natural Gas plan for Customers in Ohio

SANTA MONICA, February 23, 2022 – Inspire Clean Energy announced today that the company’s clean natural gas product offering is now available to customers in select regions of Ohio, making the transition to a cleaner, carbon-neutral future possible, one home at a time. Through the brand’s Clean Natural Gas Plan, Inspire will match 100 percent of a member’s residential natural gas usage with nature-based carbon offset projects that neutralize the emissions associated with consuming natural gas. This plan – now available in Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland – provides consumers with an easy and accessible home energy solution that meets the highest standards of accountability and verification. The plan also compliments Inspire's existing clean energy supply plan and now provides consumers with a whole home energy supply solution. 

Today, half of the American population uses non-renewable natural gas when cooking or heating their homes. While the term “natural” may seem harmless, in this instance, the use of natural gas for energy is a major emitter of greenhouse gasses (GHGs) including CO2 and dangerous methane gas when leaks occur during the extraction process.

• Bajo Calima y Bahía Málaga: This project protects and restores more than 200,000 acres of rainforest on the Pacific Coast of Columbia by providing an alternative source of income (outside of logging) and benefiting marginalized and vulnerable populations in the community. 
• Brazil Nut Concessions in Peru: This project avoids GHG emissions associated with forest logging by creating new sources of economic opportunity based on an intact, biodiverse forest. In addition to preserving critical habitats for endangered wildlife, this project also provides opportunities for increases in local household income, agroforestry training workshops for the community, and increased community engagement around sustainable forestry practices.
